The Role of Humans in an AI World
Are you in the driver's seat of your human-AI partnership?
We're all navigating this AI disruption, and honestly, none of us have crystal balls.
AI will replace lots of tasks and jobs within organizations. If there's a short term focus on cutting costs, and there's an arbitrary competition between the humans and the bots, there's a risk to both the people and the purpose of the organization.
Here's my hunch: the organizations that thrive won't be the ones with the best AI tools—they'll be the ones where humans stay firmly in the driver's seat.
What does that actually mean? It means we're setting the course with our judgment, ethics, and empathy intact. The bots help us get there, but we're steering.
There's something magical that happens when people come together—that collective intelligence, that tapestry of perspectives—that we can't outsource. We should be figuring out how to create more time and space for the humans to do the strategic and creative and empathetic work and leveraging AI to free up that space.
The tempting thing is to assume this is Sam Altman's job, or whoever's building the AI. But it's actually every single leader's job to think through this partnership thoughtfully.
We're not trying to be the bots. We're trying to amplify what makes us uniquely human: vision, courage, connection, empathy, creativity, wisdom, etc.
What's your take? How are you thinking about staying in the driver's seat?
